2013- DJ Skribble
Looking through annuls of DJ History, one name will appear more than almost any other, DJ Skribble. Since 1980, his larger than life personality has helped revolutionize the music industry, launching his own career and the careers of countless musicians around the world. DJ Skribble has been featured in numerous publications including People, US Weekly and the New York Times, proving that DJ’s can be just as popular and socially relevant as the musicians they collaborate with. DJ Skribble represents everything the modern DJ can accomplish. Nearly thirty years into the business, DJ Skribble continues to push himself and test new ground. He is constantly working with emerging artists, helping them discover their own unique presence and solidifying his role in the cultural spectrum. His touring schedule boasts collaborations with artists including P. Diddy, Taio Cruz, Ciara, Britney Spears, Dave Navarro and Tommy Lee. His discography is likened to that of a phone book of the who’s who of the music industry. His brilliance as an artist incorporates blending hip hop, house and rock-electro music into an unforgettable experience. His growth as a top rated DJ has allowed him to mix an established repertoire, which according to DJ Skribble, has made his shows “both innovative and familiar.” DJ Skribble has also expanded his identity into the realm of television and film, appearing in more than twenty music videos, television series and movies. He is perhaps most recognized for his long relationship with MTVTM, with his some of his shows; MTV Jams, The Grind, Spring Break (1998 – 2004) and Total Request Live. His connection with the audience made him a household name and daily attraction for thousands of college students on spring break and the millions of viewers watching from home. Through the course of his work on television, as well as his countless appearances in popular publications, DJ Skribble has emerged as a proven brand builder. Working with the likes of the NFLTM, NBATM, PlayboyTM, DisneyTM, SonyTM, Sheets EnergyTM, Dr. PepperTM, and Malibu RumTM. DJ Skribble has shown that his persona and talent is just as marketable as the products he promotes. Despite his accomplishments in the media, brand management, and beyond, DJ Skribble’s true passion and success has always been rooted in his music. Being a veteran among prosperous newcomers, DJ Skribble is getting stronger every day. In the past two years, DJ Times magazine ranked DJ Skribble #3 on the list of the world’s top DJ’s. He continues to produce top 10 BillboardTM mix compilations and has begun collaborating with filmmakers to produce scores for film. His popularity and accomplishments as a multi-media personality has earned him residencies at major nightclubs across the country, filling his schedule with over 225 shows a year. 2012- Richard Blade In today’s terms, Richard Blade is what’s called a “hyphenate!” He is a working producer-writer-host-voiceover talent-creator.Richard has a very recognizable name in the entertainment industry thanks to his track record and many years in radio, television and film, and has made many good friends and contacts. His energy, personality and commercial sensibility continue to make him a sought-after commodity.
By 1984 Richard was hosting “Video One”, a one-hour daily strip that ran for seven years. He was also writing, producing and directing a weekly show called “VideoBeat” for KTLA. Video One later went on to become a prominent video music network. CBS hired Richard to host and produce two seasonal specials called “CBS Music Video Countdown” (1984 & 1985). In 1986 Paramount hired him as the ‘international correspondent’ for their short-lived afternoon strip “America” with Sarah Purcell. He also traveled to Australia to host and produce a documentary for English television on Spandau Ballet’s down-under tour. The nineties saw Richard extremely busy with radio, television guest-stars, movie appearances, and hosting, including ABC’s “Countdown To The American Music Awards”. Richard also does numerous voice-overs and commercial endorsements, from TV appearances as “Mr. Donut” in Japan to the Auto Insurance Specialists commercials in the United States. From 1991 until April 2003, Richard hosted a number of television shows that were sold worldwide by Capricorn Entertainment. These included “Movies, Games & Videos”, “The Chart Show” and “America’s Top Ten” (Richard took over from Casey Kasem on this show). In April 2000, Richard left it all behind to take two years off and move to the Caribbean and write. KROQ threw a seven-hour going away concert for Richard that was broadcast live. In late October 2002, Richard moved back to Los Angeles and created and sold a series to E! Entertainment Television called “You’re In The MoviE!”. Richard directed and produced the pilot on location in Mexico on the set of “Man On Fire” with Denzel Washington and Tony Scott. In June 2003, MTV Networks retained Richard to consult on the show “Bands Reunited”. Richard was then hired by VH1 as writer and producer for the both cycles of the popular series. Richard is also an on-air personality for Sirius XM Satellite Radio and heard across the US and Canada daily from noon until 6pm on Sirius XM Ch 33 First Wave. In addition to all this Richard continues to working as a club and mobile DJ with gigs every week around the country at not only clubs but also at weddings, birthdays and corporate events. 2007- Chubby Checker
As our first recipient, we could think of no other artist that has contributed to the success of MobileDJ’s events than Chubby Checker. Today, some 40+ years after his hits of “The Twist”, “Pony Time” & the ever popular “Limbo Rock”. People are still dancing & having fun to the up beat sounds of Chubby Checker. Even today his hits have been remastered & mixed into contemporary versions that still have that Chubby Checker sound. The ADJA is proud to honor as it’s first Inductee Chubby Checker!
