Key points to consider when booking a DJ Company for your event. 1) Meet, in person, with at least 2 DJ companies. Never hire a DJ company over the phone or through email. Make sure they offer several packages and optional services, to meet your specific entertainment needs. 2) Meet the actual DJ that will be performing at your event, not a sales representative or booking agent for that DJ Company. This is the only way you can be certain that the person handling your event, has the professionalism and personality to fit your style. Make sure that the Agreement you sign has the specific DJ’s name listed as their representative for your event. 3) Meet the DJ at their place of business. This is the most important aspect in determining the level of organization and professionalism you can expect from their services. You should also expect them to be able to meet you during normal business hours, for your convenience. Ask to see their equipment to make sure that it is neat and aesthetically pleasing. Also, confirm that they are obtaining their music from a legal source that allows for playback at public events. 4) Check that the DJ Company has at least 12 references from the past 4 months. If they have not performed positively at 12 events in 4 months, they are not to be considered an actively working DJ Company. Make sure references are current and you are able to contact them via email or phone. Other vendors or event professionals are also helpful references, as they work with DJs on a regular basis. Don’t ask to see the DJ in action at an upcoming event, as it would be an inconvenience to his client, awkward for you and will rarely give you an insight to how they will perform at your event. Ask to see a video of a similar event you are planning instead, this can be just as effective. 5) Make sure the DJ Company has a current Liability Insurance Policy for you to review. A $2,000,000.00 policy is the current industry standard. Not only does this protect you and your guests, but most event facilities will require that all of your vendors are insured. 6) Make sure the DJ Company belongs to at least one major industry association and regularly attends workshops or trade shows. This way, you can be sure that they are keeping up with staff training, new technology and current trends in the entertainment industry. 7) Check online resources for additional information regarding a potential DJ Company. Pay close attention to \"review\" sites and make sure they have positive ratings from former clients. To make this easier for you to obtain, ask the DJ Company to email you links to the various sites they have been rated on. With these key points in mind, you now have all the tools you’ll need to make an educated choice, when choosing a DJ Company for your upcoming event.
